Sunny weather arrived last week and the kids behavior deteriorated and the temperatures rose. As the buses were arriving one morning, I happened to be on my way to the front office, when I saw Brandon T. tearing through the front doors intent on running straight to breakfast. He’s a 3rd grader, a bit of a pill, with not a great home life. I taught his older brother last year in 4th grade.
He looked at me. I looked at him. I called him to me. He started to turn, sure I was going to tell him to walk back to the front doors to show me he could walk to the cafeteria for breakfast. I called him again and this tim he walked up to me. I gave him a hug and said, “Thanks for walking.”
He gave me a surprised look. I smiled and we both carried on with our day.
Teachers are a little grumpy now. Our behavior is deteriorating as we get closer to the end of the year. I figured a little sugar was better than some more vinegar. And it’s nice to keep them on their toes.
