It’s the latest buzz word: Future Ready.
We are supposed to be a future ready school in a future ready district, but we’ve had an ongoing connectivity issue for a while.
The wifi works.
The wifi doesn’t work.
The wifi works.
The wifi doesn’t work.
Over and over again, all day long.
Yesterday I had to take attendance with paper and pencil for my Core 2 class, and yet, ten minutes later was I was able to show a YouTube video. Thank goodness that worked in my favor. Had I tried to show the video ten minutes later than I did, though, I would have been S.O.L., and not in the Slice of Life sense.
It hit a new low today. I couldn’t even connect with an ethernet cable. Seriously! Eventually our tech person went from room to room connecting the ethernet cable to the phone, not the wall part. Who knew you could do that.
We are on Spring Break in three days. I am hopeful that the kinks will be worked out before we get back, when SBAC testing starts. I hope that is enough of a reason for someone to figure out what the heck is going on.
This will not help your testing situation, but you can download your youtube video’s prior to showing either put them on a flash drive or on your desktop. I use this free downloader http://en.savefrom.net/1-how-to-download-youtube-video/. One of our techs gave me this advice.
Our District went one to one with a technology bond about three years ago. The first year was rocky, in and out of wifi. They finally updated the entire infrastructure and that has helped. Hope they fix all the bugs soon!
Ain’t technology grand? We have become so dependent on it that when it is not working we are thrown for a loop.
Oh boy this is the worst! Whenever this happened in our school, it was like everyone forgot how to teach before tech! Sometimes, most times unfortunately, it has to do with total updating! Good luck!
Technology is a mixed blessing. So tough when we need it and it doesn’t come through. Can’t believe that even the ethernet cables didn’t work. Hope spring break provides some time to work out the kinks (unless the tech crew is also on spring break).
Doesn’t it seems sometimes the more we depend on technology the more it fails us? Here’s hoping the kinks are out and all is up and running properly on your return.
When technology is working it is beautiful, but when it’s not working…bad. Hang in there.
Technology can really be a pain, can’t it?
Hah! We did our building-wide wireless “test” yesterday morning – and it was an utter failure. I feel your pain!
“…I would have been S.O.L., and not in the Slice of Life sense.”
Hilarious. Amazing how we get so dependent on technology in our work, huh?
