October: A heat pump poem

The temperature

Before too long

I will have to turn on

THE HEAT.

But not yet.

Bundled in socks

and a flannel shirt

I challenge myself:

one more day.

Monitoring the temperature

inside the house,

I think:

one more degree.

But this year is different.

August’s heat pump

brought AC

and will soon bring

Autumn’s heat.

Though I am not ready

to turn it on,

I sit here,

in socks and a flannel shirt,

awaiting the moment

when I

turn

on

the

HEAT.

Love the poem! We are still warm/hot here in Texas. We don’t get to dream of socks and flannel until maybe January. Though we might get a rare cold night here and there between now and then. Stay warm!

I’ve waited, too, and love that you turned the decision into a poem. I have radiator heat, so just turn to the temp I want & wait. It turned on last night! We have a drop in temperature, so it’s time here!

I was just thinking this week that we’ve gone from AC to feeling like it’s time to turn on the heat. How that happens in a single day is a wonder to me. Thank you for this playful poem. You’ve brought a smile to my face. I think tonight the comforter is coming out much to my husband’s dismay.

I admit. I gave in and switched from “cool” to “heat” the other day.

I laughed when I read your title in the comments section on the SOL page. Turning on the heat seems like a deeply personal decision sometimes! My signal came this past Saturday, when the house was colder than outside and not warming up throughout the day. Earliest date ever….

Our few days of 60’s are gone and it’s back to 70s so I believe it will be a long time yet before I turn on the heat. Our berm home is heated with hot water under/in the cement floor so it takes about two days to actually heat. I’m so NOT ready to start the heat!!!

Love your format – especially the dropping! So very clever!

I can totally picture you, bundled and slightly stubborn. Nicely sliced for the season, Adrienne.
