Lucy’s Haiku Series

24 Mar

Lucy’s nails had grown long. Because her nails are black, I can’t see the quick.  I am afraid to cut them they way I confidently cut her predecessors’ nails. So, Saturday, we made a trip to the vet for a professional trim. Here is a haiku series I think she could have written.

Lucy's Paws

We are in the car
Should I feel worry or joy
I start to tremble.

Shake shake shake shake shake
Drool drool droll drool drool drool drool
Shake shake shake shake shake

The door of doom looms
We have come to the place where
They torture me

I don’t like other dogs
But I hate this place more so
I ignore the others

The mean girl bribes me
Back, to the torture chamber
She cuts off my toes

Finally back to Mom
I will stare out the front door
Until we can leave

The drive home is short
And I am soon home, sweet home
Time for a nap.

So creative! I love it! This was my favorite part: “The door of doom looms”

Love hearing Lucy’s thoughts. I don’t think I would want to know what is going on in my cats’ heads when I take them to the vet. I am sure it would be pretty salty. 🙂

I love this! I really enjoyed the playfulness of the second haiku. I’m sure a truthful version for my cat would be laced with profanity. She doesn’t actually mind the vet too much, but she HATES the car.

I think you captured Lucy’s voice perfectly! My favorite part was the shaking and drooling…so funny and so TRUE! 🙂 ~JudyK

The second verse was my favorite (too upset for words). I also loved the lines ‘the mean girl bribes me’ and ‘cuts off my toes!’ Very cute piece. I have been reading a few slicers writein their pet’s voice, and it really seems to being out the humor!

Poor Lucy! She must feel better after though.

Fun, I trust, to re-imagine this familiar experience — both through a fresh set of eyes and in verse. I certainly had fun reading it, more fun than it sounds like Lucy had in the short term.
