I don’t need
the books I have ordered
from local independent bookstores,
or the yarn I have ordered
from local yarn shops
and indie dyers.
I definitely didn’t need
the craft supplies I ordered
from a local art supply store
in hopes that I would rediscover
a craft I enjoyed a decade ago.
I definitely needed
the dog food I ordered
from my local pet supply store.
But I ordered from them
because I think they need me
and maybe you, too.
I find myself buying things I don’t “need” either but… . The ending of your poem is clever and touching and true. Thanks for writing this!
I know what you mean. I am just about ready to order a case of cat food for Ned because his supply is running low. We need to support local businesses.
I love this little poem! I’m like you – buying things we don’t really need and don’t usually buy because I want to support the local shops. I paid $50 each for rain boots for my kids when I could have gotten them online for $10 each. But I felt good about it. 🙂
We are trying hard to support local shops and restaurants (even if they are a little more expensive that other options). They definitely need us. Your piece reminded me of that.
